About Us | Getting to Know Our Shepherd

About Us
Our Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church is a congregation of Bible-believing Christians, faithfully preaching the Gospel to the communities of the Antelope Valley and beyond for almost 50 years.

We are united in the belief that our salvation and the precious gift of heaven have been freely given to us through the life, death, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Good Shepherd. These gifts come to us by God's grace alone, by faith alone, by Scripture alone.

Throughout Scripture, God is described as a shepherd, carefully guarding His flock, leading them and keeping them in His gentle care. What great joy and peace we have to know we are so dearly loved by our Savior!

Common Questions
    The Bible
  • All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16,17)

The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever. (Isaiah 40:8)

God's Word is our great heritage.

We believe that the Bible is the true and inerrant Word of God, and that He has faithfully revealed Himself to us in Holy Scripture—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

We believe the Bible is our final authority and the firm foundation for our faith in Christ.

    Worship & Fellowship
  • Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. (Colossians 3:16)

"For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” (Matthew 18:20)

When we gather together for worship on Sunday mornings, we have the assurance that Jesus is there with us. We know it is a time to give thanks and praise to God, hear faithful preaching of the Word, and find peace in the grace and forgiveness given to us through Christ.

Worship at Our Shepherd will always be a place to rejoice in the Gospel message of Jesus and the new life we have in Him. We welcome you to rejoice in this Gospel message with us!

Sunday morning worship service begins at 10:00am in the sanctuary. Following service, please join us in the fellowship hall for Bible study and friendly fellowship, starting at 11:15am.
    Families & Children
  • Then Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." (Matthew 19:14)
Our Shepherd joyfully invites families with children to worship with us on Sundays!

If for any reason your child becomes restless, or if you are in need of privacy, there is a nursery located in the back of the sanctuary for your personal convenience. However, we always encourage parents and children of every age to hear God's Word as a family. Our worship services are open to young and old.

After service, Sunday school is available to children during Bible study time.
  • Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” (Matthew 19:14)

Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me. (Psalm 51:5)

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19)

Baptism is the washing away of sins with water, and the beginning of a new life of faith. We believe that every person is born into sin and in need of a Savior. Therefore, we practice infant baptism, in addition to adult baptism.

If you wish to be baptized, or wish to have your children baptized, please feel free to contact us! Membership to Our Shepherd is not required.

For more information, visit the WELS page on Baptism.
  • While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.” Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. (Matthew 26:26,27)
Holy Communion is taken the first, third, and fifth Sunday of each month.

Please speak with the Pastor if you are not a member and wish to participate in the Lord's Supper.

For more information, visit the WELS page on the Lord's Supper.
  • Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of the Lord’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God. (2 Corinthians 9:7,12)
Offerings provide for the basic needs of our congregation and for the advancement of the Gospel. As stated in God's Word, Our Shepherd believes that everything given to the Lord should be given with a glad and thankful heart, not out of guilt or compulsion.

If you are a visitor, we are simply happy to have you with us! Please do not feel obligated to give a monetary offering.
